Christmas fundraiser held for iconic Trongate Panopticon

I was talking to a volunteer who helps out there and despite the history of the building it’d been struggling to get any funding from the lottery or Historic Scotland and a few other places they tried. It is a shame because it is a beautiful place and again the history of the building, Stan Laurel, Cary Grant and Harry Lauder have all played there. It needs to be saved, it’s the last one of it’s kind in the world and it’s in Glasgow. Let’s dig deep and save this building and not end up with a building like the Egyptian Halls along the road in Union Street.

Council apologises to families upset by fly-tipping

The problem with Lambhill cemetery isn’t so much flytipping but gravestone-tipping.

The cemetery is an absolute depressing disgrace. I’ve visited the graves of loved ones over the years and never yet seen tyres etc as described. But what I have seen, every single year I go, are hundreds of grave stones lying tipped over at weird angles.

Whether this was caused by vandalism or subsidence should make no difference – the damage should be sorted now! I’m ashamed to be a Glaswegian when I visit, and those so called ‘in charge’ should hang their heads in shame!

Plenty of able-bodied loafers on the dole could help and plenty more civic minded strong young people would too I’m sure if only asked and organised by those in charge! Tony Huggins
