- BY CARLA JENKINS

WAS it Jack Whitehall that tickled your pickle, or Gerry Cinnamon that got you going?

Voting is now open for the SSE Live Awards, where the public can vote for their favourite live event that took place at The SSE Hydro in 2019.

In total, 79 shows took place across music, comedy, sport and entertainment in the SSE Hydro last year. Now in its fifth year, the SSE Live Awards offers fans a chance to crown a winner at both The SSE Hydro in Glasgow and The SSE Arena, Wembley in London.

Ranked as the second busiest venue in the world by Pollstar in 2019, the SSE-sponsored venue saw more than one million visitors enter the venue in 2019.

The SSE Hydro was home to massive stars in 2019, including Glasgow favourites Still Game Live, Liam Gallagher, Post Malone, Rita Ora, Rod Stewart, Shawn Mendes, Little Mix, The 1975, Gerry Cinnamon and The Proclaimers.

The previous UK-wide campaign garnered hundreds of thousands of votes across all venues with The Script, Jess Glynne, WWE Live and Andre Rieu crowned the 2018 winners for The SSE Hydro venue.

This year’s awards will once again feature categories across Best Sporting Event, Best Comedy, Best Live Entertainment, Best Solo Artist, Best Group and Event of the Year.

Voting is open until February 3 and anyone can cast their vote.

With Twitter reviews ranging from ‘top class’ for Gerry Cinnamon, ‘roaring’ for Rita Ora and ‘immense’ for The Proclaimers, the SSE Live Awards offers fans the chance to shout about the show that made a big impact on their year.

Colin Banks, Head of Sponsorship & Reward at SSE, said: “It’s fantastic to see the high calibre of artists and shows gracing the stages of our sponsored venues and we’re sure fans will want to show their appreciation and back their acts with voting now open.

“We’re also thrilled to have created lots of memorable SSE Reward moments for customers in 2019, from sold-out miracle ticketing at the likes of Liam Gallagher’s huge Glasgow date, to bringing Rod Stewart’s biggest Scottish fan face to face with her hero at the presentation of his special SSE Live Award at the end of last year.”
