Kamberi desperate to front up against Braga

- CHRIS JACK

FLORIAN KAMBERI is ready to lead the line in the Europa League after opening his Rangers account against St Johnstone.

The forward came off the bench at McDiarmid Park as Steven Gerrard’s side looked to mount a second-half comeback.

Kamberi scored a stunning strike to net his first goal for the Govan side and then set up Joe Aribo as Rangers took the lead with 20 minutes remaining.

But Stevie May denied Gerrard’s side a much-needed win as further ground was lost in the Premiership on another poor away day for Rangers.

Kamberi has made a positive impression since making a deadline-day loan switch from Hibernian and he is expected to replace the suspended Alfredo Morelos for the second leg of the last-32 clash with Braga on Wednesday evening.

He said: “The plan is always to keep a clean sheet but it’s always difficult when you concede because you have to come back. It wasn’t easy on that pitch but we shouldn’t be dropping two points here.

“It’s disappointing – not just for me but for everyone, including the supporters – because we all came to win the game and not to draw.

“It’s difficult to say why we didn’t kick on from the Braga game. Everyone has to look at their own performance. If everyone gives 100 per cent then we wouldn’t drop points, that’s clear. I try every day to give the manager something to think about in terms of playing me.

“But I will be ready whenever he gives me the chance and I am ready to do the dirty work up front in Braga if that’s what I’m asked to do, as I’ve been used to doing dirty work in the Scottish Premiership.”
