- BY DREW SANDELANDS

A CAR park is likely to be sold to a housing association by the city council and converted into 32 flats.

Glasgow councillors are expected to agree the £363,000 sale of land at Great Dovehill, Little Dovehill and Bell Street to Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) can progress when they meet on Thursday.

They are also asked to terminate the current licence with City Parking, which operated the pay and display car park.

Planning permission for the flats was agreed earlier this month.

GHA, which is part of the Wheatley Group, “are looking to bring forward a residential scheme to create 32 flatted units for mid-market rent”, a report to councillors states.

The land was declared surplus to the council’s requirements in September 2018.

The development will be made up of three closes in one block, with three wheelchair accessible flats on the ground floor and 29 two-bedroom flats. There will be one bike parking space per flat and 10 car parking spaces.

A planning report stated: “The area has experienced a change in fortunes over the last 10 years and is seeing significant development

“These proposals bring more people into the area, improve the viability of the surrounding shops and services, improve the supply of affordable rented properties and set a benchmark for private landlords in the area to be measured against.

“The project will redevelop an under utilised site and bring life to a secluded part of the area.”

It is anticipated there will be “demand from young people, predominantly with employment in the city”.

“The site is designated as high accessibility, it is within the city centre outer parking control zone and is within short walking distance of city centre transport hubs.”
