STRICTLY ACE CAN’T WAIT TO DAZZLE ON THE DANCEFLOOR

- BY CAROLINE WILSON

STRICTLY star AJ Pritchard has promised his new high-energy live show will lift fans left disappointed after last month’s cancelled Hydro dates.

The 25-year-old dancer and choreographer said he shared the frustrations of ticket holders after a water leak led to a last-minute call-off for two performances of the live show.

AJ, who reached last year’s semi finals with YouTube star Saffron Barker is bringing his own show – AJ Live – to the SEC Armadillo on Saturday, March 7, which he has produced and directed.

Audiences can expect a mix of Strictly highlights, including a version of the Elton John waltz with Saffron that captivated judges, and new material he has choreographed himself, fused with the high drama of a West End show.

He said: “I’m very excited about the show.

It’s particularly nice to come back to Glasgow after unfortunately one or two of the live shows didn’t happen.

“Glasgow is always an amazing show, the people, the energy, you just couldn’t ask for any more.

“I’ve never performed in the

Armadillo but if any ticket holders didn’t get to see the [cancelled] shows, I would urge them to come to this show because you will not be disappointed.

“It is going to be more than a dance show. We’ve got a cast of 13 on the stage, we’ve got a giant video wall, we’ve got pyrotechnics, we’ve got live fire. It’s more than just a dance show, it feels like a West End performance. “I’m going to give the best of what everyone knows and loves about Strictly with the ballroom and Latin plus much more. On Strictly Come Dancing you now see the contemporary and the musical theatre being added into it because it creates more of a story and that’s what is happening on this dance tour.

“I’ve picked the dancers, I’ve picked the music and I’ve done a lot of the choreography. Being a bit of a control freak, it’s nice to have that control.”

AJ will be paired up with former Strictly pro Chloe Hewitt, who was his childhood dance partner, for ballroom and Latin and his girlfriend, dancer Abbie Quinnen for the musical theatre numbers.

His brother, Love Island star Curtis, is due to perform on selected UK dates but not the Glasgow show due to his Greatest Dancer commitments.

He said: “I’m upset and annoyed but it is what it is.”
