Ledley joins Miller and the Jets Down Under

- KEN MILLAR

FORMER Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley has linked up with Kenny Miller after signing for Newcastle Jets in Australia.

The Welshman, 33, sealed a short-term deal for the A-League club after leaving Charlton for whom he had signed on a one-month contract back in January.

Ledley has spent some time with League Two side Newport County but, despite being offered a deal, opted to challenge himself abroad. And he admits he’s always wanted to try his hand in a different climate from British football.

“I’ve always wanted to go abroad and play football so it’s a great place to come and live,” he told the club website. “From a football point of view it was a no-brainer.”

Ledley still harbours ambitions of breaking into the Wales national side after earning his last cap back in 2018 away to Mexico in a friendly. He has won 77 international caps to date.

He added: “I haven’t retired [from international football] so it’s down to the manager who picks the team. I’ve been disappointed that I haven’t had a club for this long but it’s down to me to go out there now and play as many games as I can and perform, I won’t rule it out. I’ve been looking after myself, I was at Charlton and Newport County just ticking over.”

Ledley teams up with former Rangers and Celtic striker Kenny Miller, who was recently handed the role of Technical Director at Newcastle Jets. Working alongside former Wolves team-mate Carl Robinson, Miller will know Ledley well.

The club also boast former Livingston and Norwich City star Wes Hoolahan within their ranks as well as on-loan Hearts defender Bobby Burns.
