A MAN has tragically died following an emergency services rescue operation.

Police, fire and ambulance crews raced to the River Clyde after receiving a report that he had fallen in the water yesterday afternoon.

A search and rescue operation was launched but he died after he was taken to the hospital.

Police said they had received a report of the incident at the Albert Bridge but pictures from the scene show that the nearby Tradeston Bridge was sealed off.

A Police Scotland spokeswoma­n said: “Around 1.10pm on Wednesday, March 18, emergency services on collision with a motor car being driven by Anthony Ralston.”

The Hoops right-back, on loan at St Johnstone, was behind the wheel of a Renault Trafic at the time. responded to a report of a concern for a man in the River Clyde, near the Albert Bridge.

“A man was recovered from the water and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he later died.

“There are no apparent suspicious circumstan­ces and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: “We were alerted at 1.16pm on Wednesday, March 18 to assist emergency service partners at an incident on the River Clyde near Albert Bridge, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and water rescue teams to the scene.”

Both cars are claimed to have been damaged and Craig injured following the incident.

Craig did not appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday for trial.

Prosecutor Cheryl Lyons put the trial off as she was informed Craig was self isolating due to coronaviru­s.

A new trial date for later this year was set by Sheriff Ian Miller.
