MSP urges groups to apply to his fund

Bid for shop’s use to change

APOLITICIAN is inviting community groups to apply for funding to support them during the coronavirus crisis. SNP MSP for Glasgow Provan Ivan McKee has urged organisations in his constituency to come forward with good ideas that will help the community.

The new initiative is an offshoot of McKee’s Enterprising Provan fund, now in its fourth year. He created the fund by donating half of his MSP salary.

The Glasgow Times understands that St Denis Primary School in Dennistoun has already had £1000 worth of funding approved to support local families in the area.

Mr McKee said: “Given the exceptional circumstances caused by the coronavirus, and the challenges it presents for economic and social wellbeing in the community, I’m extending the eligibility criteria and inviting local organisations to bid for funding for projects that will directly help people in Provan affected by the extraordinary circumstances caused by the virus.

“This could include helping people gain access to basic provisions such as food, fuel, toiletries and other resources, or community-run projects to help people who are facing loneliness or feeling isolated.

“But I’m open to ideas – if you’re a local group with an idea to help people through this crisis, I want to hear from you.

“Enterprising

Provan already has a good track record in supporting initiatives within this community, which is well-equipped to help itself, and I’m delighted to be able to provide some funding to local groups and organisations driving grassroots efforts.”

Applications are invited for sums of £100 to £1000. For more information, contact enterprisingprovan@ gmail.com

RETROSPECTIVE planning permission is being sought for a betting shop to operate as a cafe in the Gallowgate.

The plans, which also include the erection of a flue, were submitted last month for the premises on 213 Gallowgate.

Permission was previously refused due to insufficient discharge for cooking fumes.

A decision is expected on May 4.
