High demand sees early briefs sale

- DARREN JOHNSTONE

PARTICK THISTLE chief executive Gerry Britton admits the club have put season tickets on sale following demand from their supporters to release them early.

Despite doubts over the current campaign being completed and next term’s starting on time, Britton insists the Maryhill outfit have been inundated by fans keen to ease the financial strain on Thistle.

Partick, who are currently bottom of the Championship with nine games left, have already vowed to retain their entire workforce on full pay until at least the end of May - with or without government aid.

That is despite Britton recently admitting they are facing a £150,000 blackhole due to the coronavirus shutting down football.

And Britton is encouraged that supporters are willing to boost the Jags’ financial health by buying season tickets.

He said: “It may seem to be a strange time to start selling season tickets when we don’t know when the season might begin but our fans have been pressing us to give them that option to show support for Thistle.

“We have various contingencies in development to support fans for all the possible permutations of seasons restarting, finishing and commencing. But there will be a season 2020/21 and our fans want to be at Firhill for it.

“Every one of us at the club would like to once again thank each and every supporter for their incredible backing at this unprecedented time.

“While there are no current finance options available due to the lending restrictions most businesses are subject to at present, we anticipate that finance options will be available closer to the season start.

“Please continue to look after yourselves and each other and follow all government and NHS advice. Stay home, save lives.”
