Paperboy James keeping in touch

- BY STACEY MULLEN

HAVING a paper round helps teenager James McLaughlin stay connected. The Kilsyth schoolboy uses his paper round money to pay for his phone.

The 16-year-old has been delivering the Glasgow Times in the North Lanarkshire town for several years – and even hopes that one day he will be able to pass on his customers to his younger brother Hugh, 8.

Proud mum Anne said: “It’s good that he does the paper round – it allows him to pay for his phone.

“He enjoys doing it. It gets him out for a walk.”

She added: “He takes his brother with him sometimes and he hopes to pass the paper round on to him when he moves on.”

James, who is a black belt in

Taekwondo, attends St Maurice’s High School in nearby Cumbernauld where he studies his favourite subject – Italian.

He delivers the paper to his family too, ensuring that everyone is in-the-know with the latest news from Glasgow and the surrounding area.

James lives in Kilsyth with mum Anne, dad Hugh and siblings Darcy, 20, Hugh, 8, Henry, 4, Annie-Rose, 1, and Louis who is nine weeks.

The teenager is one of the many paper boys and girls that are still operating for the Glasgow Times across the city.

The team are responsible for making sure you know everything that is going on in the city especially with the current coronavirus pandemic.
