The message is clear... save lives

-

WHAT’S in a slogan, eh? Now before I go any further, nothing that I’m about to say is political. It’s just common sense. Ask yourselves this, which of the following slogans or messages is clearer? A) Stay At Home | Protect The NHS | Save Lives

B) Stay Alert | Control The Virus | Save Lives Exactly!

What an unnecessary mess this has all made. Yes, there has to be a point that the strategy changes and so the message is tweaked to reflect that.

However both the strategy and message must be clear for people to understand.

All that has been achieved over the last few days is confusion.

And that’s dangerous.

Looking at those two messages again, there’s two words that remain unchanged – save lives.

That has to remain the absolute priority for us all throughout this.

Whatever we do has to be done to help save people’s lives.

It’s quite simple, really. The most effective messages always are.

I’ll give you a couple of examples.

1. People Make Glasgow – the city’s brand 2013 this has become a catchphrase for those living in, working in and visiting Glasgow. It’s simple. It’s proud. And it’s enduring – always a good sign for a slogan.

2. Your City’s Friend – this is the slogan for Glasgow Taxis, for almost 18 months now, inspired in part by People Make Glasgow. Again it’s simple and highlights our position as an organisation proud to serve the city. Simple! I have been joined back on the streets by a good few more of my colleagues in the past week.

We always have been and always will be your city’s friend.

That message is clean. Just like our Taxis!
