Foulkes rages at failure to revamp
GEORGE FOULKES has slammed Scottish football’s decision-makers for failing to live in the real world during the coronavirus pandemic.
The former Hearts chairman has been left bemused by the way the powerbrokers have handled the global health crisis as factions have opened up and infighting has broken out.
Foulkes believes league reconstruction would have been the best way forward for the whole of the game next season, given that he believes there is no way the current campaign can be concluded because of government restrictions.
With that having failed to gain enough support, the Labour politician has already insisted that declaring the season null and void should be the only option left for the SPFL because of the turmoil being played out in society.
Talking of reconstruction being kiboshed, he said: “I think it’s very short-sighted. Having been involved with the management of one club, and having seen all the people who run all the other clubs, sometimes they don’t fully understand what’s happening outwith the realms of football, in the real world. I fear that’s what’s happened here. “I think they sometimes think that football can live in a world of its own, isolated and separate from the realities of the world around them.Well, that’s not the case.”
He added: “I’ll tell you, the fans will rally round the club.
“They’ve already sold a lot of season tickets, the fans will back the club whatever happens, there’s no doubt about that.
“You can’t have any more loyal fans than the ones in the Foundation of Hearts, and the contribution we’re still giving to support the club shows that.
“But just because we’ve got loyal fans doesn’t mean to say we should be kicked out on a whim on an arbitrary basis.”
