Probe launched after murder bid

DETECTIVES have launched an attempted murder investigat­ion after a man was attacked on a cycle path in Glasgow.

The 28-year-old is seriously ill in hospital after he was targeted on the path in Whiteinch at around 1.50pm on Wednesday.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in the city and is said to be in a stable condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened near Curle Street and the Jordan Street Bridge.

The force want to speak to anyone on the path at the time, including two cyclists, believed to be father and son.

Officers also want to identify a man seen in the area who is white, aged 27-30, 5ft 10in, of slim build and with short dark hair. He was wearing a white, long-sleeved top.

Detective Inspector Craig Warren said: “Inquiries are at an early stage and we are keeping an open mind about the motive and whether this attack, which we are treating as an attempted murder, was targeted at the victim.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed this incident.

“We are particular­ly keen to speak to anyone who was using the cycle path around the time of the attack.”

He added: “We believe that there were two cyclists in the vicinity at the time, possibly a father and son, who have seen the incident or those involved.

“Anyone with informatio­n can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1865 of 20 May, or call Crimestopp­ers anonymousl­y on 0800 555 111.” who has a home in Dunoon, said it was important to value the NHS “in a real and functional way” and not just by clapping for workers.

More than 5000 aprons have been donated to Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
