Women injured after men throw ‘corrosive substance’ at them

TWO women were treated for serious burns in hospital after being attacked with a corrosive substance in Lanarkshire. Two men smashed the window of a property in Motherwell Road before throwing the substance at the women, aged 21 and 42.

The attack took place early hours of yesterday, 12.05am.

Both women were taken to University Hospital Wishaw by ambulance for treatment and later released.

Police targeted believe but are the still in the around attack was working to establish a possible motive for the crime.

The suspects drove up to the property in a small car which is believed to be a vehicle that was later found burnt out in North and South Road, Motherwell.

Motherwell officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Jim Williamson of Wishaw CID said: “We are still working to establish the motive surrounding this attack, however, we believe this was a targeted attack.

“Officers are conducting a number of enquiries in the local area today and the public will see an increased police presence.

“I am appealing for anyone who may have heard or seen anything around the time of the incident which may help with our enquiries to get in touch.

“We are particularly interested in the movements of the vehicle, believed to be a small hatchback and possibly a Suzuki Baleno.

“If you saw this car in the area last night, or in the days prior to the assault, please come forward to assist our inquiries.”
