City designer creates T-shirts to help NHS

- BY CATHERINE HUNTER

AGLASGOW designer has been creating T-shirts with drawings of Glasgow Royal Infirmary frontline staff to show her support to key workers.

Lisa McAlinden, who is originally from Moodiesburn and heads up the design team at Spring Near East, is planning to sell the clothing while donating 100 per cent of the profits to the NHS.

Lisa studied at Heriot-Watt Scottish Borders campus in Galashiels specialising in fashion knitwear.

She has lived in London for 16 years and been in the fashion industry ever since.

The special collection is sustainable made with BCI cotton and uses state of the art print techniques which reduces water waste.

She said: “We have already raised £5000 through our Instagram account in one week. We lost our founder Esra Ercan in March to cancer.

“She used the NHS on many occasions during her four year battle, so we really wanted to do something to give back with the only way we know how – creativity and clothing, not only for her memory but for all our NHS heroes who have cared throughout this crisis and continue to do so.”

The NHS hero’s T-shirt features nurses for the Glasgow Royal Infirmary who work in the front-line testing and caring for patients with Covid-19.

Lisa added: “We wanted to give the nurses their moment of fame for the incredible work they do and keep doing for all of us.

“It’s been a great pleasure to hear the nurses in the Royal all excited and moral lifted due to their moment in the spot light would be great to get some more exposure to raise a ton of cash and continue to lift our NHS warriors.

“That’s why we are donating all profits to the NHS Covid-19 Urgent Appeal through NHS charities. That’s the legal way the NHS receives, holds and spends charitable funds and does not replace government money.”

The funds will be spent helping the well-being of staff, volunteers and patients affected by Covid-19 through care packages, food deliveries and overnight stay kits.

It will also help support the mental health needs of patients and staff in the current situation and post pandemic.

The products will soon be available through their Instagram shop @SpringNearEast.
