We love you to Troon and back!

-

CHANGE. It’s been the one constant throughout the last three months. People and businesses changing to meet the extraordinary circumstances and new needs. Taxi drivers wearing masks, not touching doors and some even discouraging cash payment – unheard of!

Business meetings being held almost entirely by video call with a nervous wave replacing the traditional handshake.

Football matches getting set to play behind closed doors.

Even the newspaper you read now has had to change; committing page after page to a single subject, celebrating healthcare heroes every day and delivering for free to care homes.

Nothing has stayed the same and people have found the most brilliant solutions for problems which presented themselves overnight.

Which brings us to the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund and the charity’s annual taxi trip to Troon.

Cancelled back in March, rescheduled to next year. Leaving a void on June 17 for the 300+ Glasgow children who were so looking forward to this year’s trip, the 75th annual event as it happens.

How can you change the trip for one year only so the children don’t miss out?

Only one thing you can do – if we can’t go to Troon, we must bring Troon to the children!

So one week today – Wednesday, June 17 – me and my fellow taxi drivers will join the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund in making that a day of celebration with funny videos, fancy dress, old photographs and special memories shared.

Yes, for one year only #TaxisToTroon becomes #LockdownToTroon – one big social media party.

Between 10am and 4pm next Wednesday follow the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund on Facebook and Twitter and follow #LockdownToTroon on both to join in the fun.

It would be amazing if as many people that usually turn out to clap us off from Kelvin Way or welcome us to Troon could get involved.

All it takes is five minutes – email your memories, photos, videos or messages to the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund at admin@gtof.org.uk so they can share them with the children on the day.

It’s all for the children, to make sure they don’t miss out any more than they have to.

It might just be the biggest, brightest and best distraction we’ve all enjoyed since lockdown began.

Now wouldn’t that make a nice change? Stay safe!
