Here’s what to do with scandal-hit city statues

-

THERE is talk about placing specific public statues in museums and perhaps this is the way forward. We can’t have constant repeats of the unrest seen on our streets at the weekend as the far-right once again demonstrate their intolerance of those who don’t share their warped views of the world.

Like them or hate them, statues are part of our culture, but their time has passed.

Perhaps new or existing heritage museums are the place where these statues should be placed anyway. It would clear our civic areas for more useful purposes and reduce potential future clashes of rival organisations.

I NOTE the city centre is very quiet during the pandemic with shops shut. There has been a massive proliferation of graffiti as well as drug deals being done in broad daylight. I can’t understand why people aren’t being caught as it has the highest number of CCTV cameras. What are the CCTV operators actually doing? Name and address supplied

WHAT planet are the council on? Electric scooters will be used wrongly. Look at other countries – accidents are waiting to happen. It’s bad enough we have all these cyclists up and down pavements.

Yes, the council has electric bikes ... they are wrongly used too.

Now, Pollok Park wants more space for cyclists. No chance. They think the paths in parks belong to them, as I saw last Sunday in Bellahouston Park. They don’t want to move out of the way.

The cycle lanes are a waste too. Time for the law to be brought down on cyclists, whether it’s electric or push bike – and, yes, for being on their phones too. If a driver can be fined then they should be too. D Lambert

STEWART Paterson claims James Watt invented the steam engine. James Watt (right) did not invent the steam engine and never claimed to being the inventor of the steam engine.

James Watt improved the efficiency of Thomas Newcomen’s steam engine with the introduction of a condenser. This sent hot water back to the boiler which produced the steam for the engine. Mr Paterson is implying that the family money allowed James Watt to pursue his engineering career. Money doesn’t buy intelligence. I am absolutely disgusted with Mr Paterson’s comments.

Is this the way we are going? Jump on the bandwagon. Compare Billy Connolly to James Watt? Give us a break.
