Let’s give city’s children special day they deserve

-

TODAY – Wednesday, June 17 – should be the 75th annual Glasgow Taxi Outing to Troon. I make no apologies for writing about this two weeks running because it’s so important to the young people – and we can all do our bit today to make sure that the children who would have been on that trip don’t miss out.

We can all chip in, with little effort. The charity which organizes the trip, the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund, has been inundated with video messages, pictures, memories and messages, including from some famous faces.

These will be shared today to help entertain the 300 children who will be stuck at home in Glasgow instead of heading to Troon for a day to remember.

You can see these messages and enjoy all the fun by following the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund’s Facebook and Twitter pages and the #LockdownToTroon hashtag.

It should be a cracking day – and there’s another way you can get involved.

Supporters of the charity are calling on all people in and around Glasgow – and Ayrshire – who will be enjoying their daily exercise today to devote it to the trip for one day only.

They have set up a fundraiser in aid of the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, both of which are operating in a very challenging climate right now.

All you have to do to take part and help is: Run, walk or cycle at some point today – in fancy dress if you like!

Share pictures or videos of your daily exercise using #LockdownToTroon.

Make a small donation if you can afford to do so: https://www.gofundme.com/f/ lockdown-to-troon-run-walk-cycle-for-the-kids.

It’s as simple as that. All money raised will be split 50/50 between the two causes.

I’ll be getting out of my taxi today to join in the fun.

It’s the least we can do for the children.

And I might even dress up – you’ll need to follow #LockdownToTroon to find out!

I hope you can join us too.

And I hope we can get back to Troon with the children next year.

Until then, stay safe!
