Motherwell loan Hastie from Ibrox

- MARK HENDRY

RANGERS winger Jake Hastie completed his loan move to former club Motherwell yesterday and immediately declared: “I want to score goals”.

The playmaker departed the Steelmen in 2019 for Ibrox but failed to make an impact and was loaned out to Rotherham in England’s League One after just two first-team appearances. He was recalled in January but could not force his way into Steven Gerrard’s squad and now has been farmed out again.

Hastie – who was also wanted by Hearts – is determined to take advantage of the playing time on offer at Fir Park and plans to impress. And he wants to start by adding goals to his game again like he managed during his first spell as a Motherwell player. “I’m absolutely delighted to be back,” he told the club website.

“I’ve been with Motherwell since I was nine years old. A year away has helped me grow even more as a player, but it’s also made me appreciate what the club does for me to help me develop. I’m fit and ready to go. I want to pick up where we left off just over a year ago and make an impact on the team scoring goals.”

Meanwhile the Light Blues tied up young goalkeeper Robby McCrorie on a three-year deal at Ibrox yesterday. The 22-year-old enjoyed a loan at Livingston last season after being recalled from another stint at Queen of the South earlier in the campaign. With Allan McGregor still Gers’ number one and new signing Jon McLaughlin vying for his place, McCrorie may be sent out on loan once again.

But he told of his delight at sorting out his long-term future in Glasgow.

Speaking to the club website he said: “It means a lot and I am buzzing it has been done. I first joined the club when I was turning eight years-old and I am happy that the journey is continuing.

“It means everything to me and my family. Every day I come in, being the Rangers goalkeeper is always in the back of my mind and it is why I work as hard as I can to give myself the best opportunity.

“And if it does happen, I’ll always want more after that. I’ll never settle – even if I get my debut, I’ll always keep pushing.”

Elsewhere, former Motherwell goalkeeper Mark Gillespie has signed for Newcastle United on a three-year deal.
