Paedo brother back in court after council investigation ordered

- BY CAROLINE WILSON

AMAN who was convicted of child grooming offences alongside his brother is to have his supervision order reviewed after social work launched a fresh investigation.

Christopher Kennedy and his brother William’s convictions came after they believed they were speaking to 14-year-old girls on adult dating sites.

But they were actually talking to separate vigilante groups who livestreamed stings on Facebook, leading to their arrests, days apart at their mother’s home in East Kilbride.

When Christopher was arrested his mother was recorded turning to her son and saying: “You haven’t, have you?”

Both admitted sending messages and images of a sexual nature to a child between June and July 2018.

The brothers were convicted in November last year at Hamilton Sheriff Court but were spared a jail sentence.

Christopher was given a twoyear supervision order and placed on the sex offenders’ register while his brother, then 36, was issued with a more severe sanction.

An email seen by the Glasgow Times states that South Lanarkshire Council launched an investigation in March after being sent an image from a member of the public.

He is to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court tomorrow for a review of his supervision order at the request of social work.

The council would not issue any further details on the reason why is it being reviewed. Christopher Kennedy is believed to be a former South Lanarkshire Council employee.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council said: “Sex offenders are monitored in the community under the Multi-Agency

Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) which involve the police service, local authorities, the NHS, Scottish Prison Service and other partners.

“The management of sex offenders in the community is a particularly sensitive and complex area of work.

“Public safety is always main priority in all cases.

“Whilst it remains the main priority, a balance is required between public safety and the right of the individual.”

A court spokeswoman the said:

“The accused is scheduled to have the CPO imposed on him on 11/6/19 reviewed by the Court on 15/7/20.”

William Kennedy admitted offences from July last year including making arrangements to meet an underage girl for sex. put under supervision for three years, banned from having contact with any child under the age of 16 and cannot access the internet.

He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for three years.
