Council set to resume purple bin collections
GLASGOW City Council will resume purple bin collections from next Monday. The local authority, however, said they are moving to an eight-weekly uplift because the demand for the service was low.
Purple bins contain glass and collection was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
On their website, the council said: “We are pleased to advise that the collection of purple glass recycling bins from the front and back door properties will restart from Monday, July 20.
“Please ensure you check the online collection calendar for your new scheduled collection dates following the restart of the service.
“Waste placed at the side of bins will not be collected.
“We will now be collecting your purple bin every eight weeks - your collection day is therefore likely to change. Prior to the Covid-19 lockdown, we found that demand for the service was low with less than a third of purple bins being presented for collection every four weeks.
“This change better reflects the demand for the service.
“By moving to an eight-week collection cycle for purple bins we can recycle glass from homes with front and back doors much more efficiently.
“Residents can also continue to use the network of public collection points for glass bottles and jars. Details on the network of points are available on the council website.
“In addition, from Saturday, residents can also use their local household waste recycling centre to recycling any glass bottles or jars.
“Please continue to support our refuse collection crews by giving consideration to the regular cleaning of bin handles and lids and washing your hands before and after touching bins.”
