I’ll love you forever wee guy. You were the wee brother I never had

ACOMMUNITY has been left devastated following the death of a 10-year-old boy who fell down a hole at a building site. Shea Ryan passed away in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital on Thursday after the incident in Drumchapel.

Police have launched a probe as they bid to find out the exact cause behind his death near Glenkirk Drive.

Tributes have poured in for the “kind and caring” youngster with locals leaving a number of floral tributes in the area.

Heartbroke­n friends and family took to social media yesterday to express their shock at the news.

A cousin wrote: “I can’t believe it, absolutely devastated. Never in my life did I think that my beautiful, kind, caring wee cousin would be sent to heaven at this time of year and age.

“I’ll love you forever wee guy, forever 10. You were the wee brother I never had.”

Neighbours close to the building site were also devastated by the news.

One woman, who lives on Cloan Avenue, said: “It’s so sad. What can you say? It’s a wee boy at 10.”

Another added: “It’s heartbreak­ing for the whole community. It will kill the whole place. It’s a sin. It’s heartbreak­ing.”

Work has been ongoing in the area near Kinfauns Drive as part of a £5 million drainage project to help combat flooding, with engineers also planning to realign Gardscadde­n Burn.

Police Scotland have the death is not being suspicious.

A spokesman said: “Around 9.55pm on Thursday, July 16, police were called to a report of a boy seriously injured at a works site near Glenkirk Drive, Drumchapel, confirmed treated as

Glasgow. Emergency services attended and the 10-year-old boy was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

“Police enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstan­ces surroundin­g this incident, however the death is not being treated as suspicious. The Health and Safety Executive have been informed.”

A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) spokeswoma­n said: “HSE are aware and assisting police with their enquiries.”
