YOB CLAIMING HE HAD COVID SNEEZED ON MAN ‘AS A JOKE’
Young boy injured in dog attack
A YOB who coughed and sneezed on a man stating he had coronavirus later claimed it was a joke.
Ryan Haggerty, 23, assaulted Andrew Murdoch in Queen’s Park in April this year.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Mr Murdoch spotted a drunk Haggerty walking in his direction.
Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “Haggerty said ‘Sorry boys’ and then stopped approximately four feet away, coughed and sneezed in his direction.
“He then said ‘I’ve got corona’.”
Mr Murdoch contacted police officers and told them Haggerty had fled nearby
Officers soon stopped Haggerty who told Mr Murdoch: “I don’t have corona, I’m sorry I caused you fear and alarm.
“I’m really sorry I was only doing it for a bit of a laugh.
“It was only a joke,
I don’t have corona.”
He pleaded guilty yesterday to the assault while on bail from Paisley and Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Paul Crozier.
Haggerty, of Shawlands, was remanded meantime.
TWO people have been charged by police after an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured during a dog attack in Renfrewshire.
The youngster was bitten by two dogs in Hagg Crescent, Johnstone, at around 6pm on July 16, and was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow for treatment.
Police said the boy’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening and he has since been released from hospital.
A man and a woman, both aged 66, have been charged in connection with the incident.
