Gers-daft Alfie goes extra mile for auntie

- BY JACK HAUGH

HE was sent messages of support from a Rangers star and two players from the Ibrox club turned up unexpectedly at his door.

But, four-year-old Alfie Hadden has even more to boast about after coining in thousands of pounds for charity.

The East Kilbride schoolboy has raised more than £4000 for Muscular Dystrophy UK by completing an impressive 5k around the town.

The Rangers-daft youngster was inspired to take on the challenge for his aunt Emma – who battles with the muscle-weakening disease.

On Saturday, Alfie and his dad Scott, 31, were cheered on by friends and family, who lined the streets of the South Lanarkshire town, as they finished the ‘mini marathon’ in just 46 minutes.

His proud mum Laura McEnroe, 31, said: “We never, ever imagined it was going to go as crazy as it has done.

“We’ve raised so much smashed our target of £200.

“It just blew up and we’ve been so overwhelmed by it all.

“We are so, so proud of him and we couldn’t be any prouder.

“When he was doing it that morning, he said he wanted to do 100k, but we’ve told him 5k might be enough!”

Laura added : “He wanted to do it for the charity because his Aunt Emma has muscular dystrophy. One day I was walking along to my sisand ter-in-law’s and I was pushing Darcie along in the pram and he was running alongside me.

“It’s quite a fair distance and I asked him if he was out of breath but he said no and just kept going.

“I said I think he should do a wee sponsored run and that he could raise some money for people who need it or who don’t keep well. “Straightaway he said ‘I could maybe help Auntie Emma’. “He was thinking ‘oh, we people a wheelchair’. could maybe buy

“He still can’t say Muscular Dystrophy but he was always telling people that he was doing it to help people like Auntie Emma.”

As well as friends and family, Rangers stars Scott Arfield, Ross McCrorie, and Robby McCrorie also gave Alfie their backing.

Arfield sent Alfie a surprise video message while twins turned up unexpectedly at his home to wish him luck.

“He’s had amazing support from the players,” Laura said.

“The brothers Ross and Robby McCrorie turned up at our house last week to surprise him.

“That was just amazing and he just loved it.”
