Glasgow charity praised for Covid-19 effort
A GLASGOW charity which has delivered more than 6500 emergency food parcels to the elderly, covering 9000 miles, has been praised at the Scottish Parliament.
SNP MSP Sandra White put forward a motion praising the efforts of Glasgow’s Golden Generation (GGG) curing the Covid pandemic, which was endorsed by crossparty politicians.
The charity’s work, mostly led by volunteers, has also included making 8500 calls to vulnerable and lonely older people.
The motion states:
“The Parliament commends Glasgow’s Golden Generation on its outreach programme during the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that the community group has delivered 6500 parcels of essentials to the doors of older adults in the city, covering 9000 miles; notes that it has issued 8500 befriending and benefits advice telephone calls; congratulates the team of 50 key workers and volunteers providing vital support to older people during these exceptional times, and wish all at Glasgow’s Golden Generation the very best.” Established in 1948 as Glasgow Old People’s Welfare Association (GOPWA), GGG is now the city’s leading charity for the elderly. It aims to improve the quality of life of older adults in Glasgow through a variety of support services ranging from three day care centres, clubs, community support, volunteering, befriending and welfare services.
