Pensioner shouted homophobic abuse at couple

- BY CONNOR GORDON

A BIGOTED pensioner hurled homophobic abuse at a lawyer and his partner after he clocked them holding hands.

Peter Kerr branded Andrew McCusker and William

Shankey-Smith “p***y b ****** s” and “bent”.

The 76-year-old turned on the couple – aged 30 and 31 – as they were walking in the street in Shawlands, Glasgow in January this year.

Kerr continued his tirade before being held by police.

The OAP pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner aggravated by prejudice relating to sexual orientation. Mr McCusker later slammed Kerr for his “hate and stupidity”.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the men were together when Kerr yelled at them: “F*** sake.”

Kerr, of the city’s Pollokshaws, will be sentenced at a later date.

A disgusted Mr McCusker had posted on Twitter how he of everyone in the village. Desi, who is also dad to Kelly Anne and grandad to Ebony, 25, and Lucia, 13, has been sent messages by former players of the Parkhead club and a group of supporters are set to walk from Lanarkshire to the Bhoys’ home to raise cash. Erin’s Rangers supporting boyfriend, Alan Turner, has also promised to pull on his rival’s Hoops to aid the fundraiser.

Erin said: “He would give you the shirt off his back, he cares so much. “He deserves it. He just loves life and he just wants to see his granddaughters grow and wants to be here.

“Everyone deserve life. I know they do. But, he’s my dad. He’s the best man and he’s never hurt anybody in his life. and his partner had been targeted shortly after the incident.

He said after the hearing: “His hate and stupidity in being vocally and unrepentantly homophobic towards me and my boyfriend led to his arrest.”

“He deserves the chance to live. We need to do something for him. We owe him that.”

As well as raising the cash to save her dad’s life, Erin also hopes it can serve as a warning to people using sunbeds.

Desi has only used them a couple of times in his life to help with a previous illness and Erin can’t believe people don’t know their risk.

She said: “I just feel like screaming when I see these young girls going into the sunbeds and just want to tell them to stop.

“I didn’t know when I was younger about the danger of sunbeds. There was nothing to tell us back then.

“This cancer doesn’t discriminate. I just wish they would ban the sunbeds.”
