Illegal rave is linked to serious South Side assault
AN “illegal rave” held in the South Side on Saturday evening could be connected to an attack which has left one man with serious injuries.
The Glasgow Times reported on Sunday that a 24-year-old man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment following a disturbance on Kilbirnie Street at around 3.05am.
Officers are now appealing to the general public for information as they have launched an extensive investigation to trace those responsible.
A source told the Glasgow Times an “illegal rave” had been held in the area prior to the assault where around 200 people had attended an indoor gathering – with no social distancing or facemasks.
Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, indoor gatherings of over three households where there are more than eight people are currently forbidden.
The Glasgow Times understands that police are aware of a gathering in the area prior to the assault and it is currently under investigation.
Detective Inspector Lynsey Watters, of Cathcart CID, said: “Officers are checking all available CCTV and carrying out door-to-door enquiries to identify the person or persons responsible.
“I am appealing to anyone who was on Kilbirnie Street or the surrounding streets around this time who may have witnessed the assault, saw somebody running away or saw any suspicious activity to contact the police.”
Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference number 0764 of 23 August.
