Glasgow music school adapts to a new tempo for students
AFTER being diagnosed with a brain tumour during his first year of university, Paul Murray, 30, required immediate surgery which unfortunately resulted in Paul going from a regular pianist to a left-hand alone piano player.
Originally from Bellshill, Paul worked through his disability and used his skills and contacts within Scotland to create a new meaningful project in the form of the Glasgow School of Music. The music school is located at
542 Scotland Street West, Kinning Park.
Paul reveals the impact Covid has presented on his relatively new venture.
Like many businesses, we closed our doors in March unsure of what was to come next. We were able to provide a small number of students with lessons via online platforms, but we lost more than 65% of our clients. Many of our tutors have been affected, with some having to leave Glasgow as a result of the financial uncertainty from lockdown.
The Glasgow School of Music was founded in 2018 and the studios officially opened in April 2019. We are a music school that offers private tuition for a variety of instruments as well as vocal and theory lessons. We work with talented tutors who offer personalised lessons to suit each clients requirements.
Our studios are spacious allowing us to adhere to strict physical distancing when providing face to face lessons. We have purchased Perspex screens that act as a barrier against virus particles to allow for singing, woodwind, and brass lessons. Our tutors have been provided with face coverings and we have face masks for customers should they wish to wear them. We are also able to offer online lessons for those who feel safer at home.
The Glasgow School of Music plays an active role in the creative community and seeks out new projects and opportunities within our community and our city. As a new company, we know that we have the drive to develop the young, musical-minds of Glasgow and even educate the more mature mind into learning some new tricks.
