Lille yet to make Morelos move

- CHRIS JACK

RANGERS are waiting on Lille to make the next move in the ongoing Alfredo Morelos transfer saga as the French side weigh up an improved offer for the striker.

The Ibrox board rejected an approach of around £16million for Morelos earlier this month and reports in Colombia on Tuesday claimed that the 24-year-old had formally requested that he be allowed to move to Ligue 1 this summer.

Rangers sources have confirmed that Morelos has not handed in a transfer request and the ball remains in Lille’s court as they consider their options over a fresh bid.

Boss Steven Gerrard left Morelos out of his squad for the Premiership win over Kilmarnock on Saturday but Rangers won’t lower their asking price in an attempt to speed up a deal that would see the forward leave Ibrox.

Gerrard revealed before the Killie clash that Morelos ‘didn’t look himself’ amid ongoing speculation over his future with the club this summer.

And he claimed the decision to leave him out of his squad was ‘easy’ as Kemar Roofe and Ryan Kent – who has attracted interest from Leeds United in recent days – netted the decisive goals to keep his side top of the table.

Morelos will be allowed to bring an end to his three-year stint with the Ibrox club once Rangers’ asking price has been met and Lille – who signed Jonathan David from Gent in a £27million deal a fortnight ago – will have to come back to the negotiating table if they wish to further bolster their attacking options for the new campaign.
