Thug spat at pharmacist and issued gun threat

ATHUG who spat at a pharmacist during lockdown after she refused to give him a prescription has been jailed for seven months.

Daniel Murphy, 33, also threatened to shoot Stephanie McMahon at Glasgow’s Houlihan’s Pharmacy in May.

Murphy was enraged after his request for a weekend’s methadone prescription was turned down.

He pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault and acting in a threatening or abusive manner.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC told Murphy, of the city’s Townhead, that a custodial sentence was necessary as the offence was “very serious.”

An earlier hearing was told Murphy turned up to the Possil pharmacy looking for the extended prescription.

He was told by Miss McMahon that she was unable to comply and asked him return the next day.

Prosecutor Mark Allan told the court Murphy became “angry” and began to shout before being asked to leave.

Murphy continued his aggressive behaviour outside before returning to call Miss McMahon “a bastard.”

Mr Allan added: “The accused then audibly conjured spittle within his mouth and threw his head back and spat at her.

“A witness intervened making attempts to stop the assault and Miss McMahon stepped back to avoid the spit landing on her person.”

Murphy then shouted: “You’re getting shot, I’m going to burn this place down.”

Police attended and arrested Murphy before taking him to hospital for treatment due to his level of intoxication.
