CITY charities are to benefit to the tune of £ 20,000 thanks to a new fund aimed at helping those hardest hit by the pandemic.

Silverburn shopping centre, in partnership with Foundation Scotland, has launched the Giving Back Project, a new scheme which awarded £ 2000 to 10 local charities worst affected by Covid and lockdown.

It is aimed at groups tackling food poverty, domestic violence, homelessness and employment opportunities.

David Pierotti, general manager at Silverburn, said: “The past few months have been an extremely challenging time for so many people.

“The Giving Back Project is all about giving a helping hand to those charities and organisations that do valuable work for local people, but are facing challenges as a result of the Covid- 19 pandemic.”

He added: “By partnering with Foundation Scotland, we can make sure we reach the groups that most need our support.”

Giles Ruck, chief executive at Foundation Scotland said: “For more than 20 years, we have been bringing together funders and grassroots organisations to help support and strengthen communities in every corner of Scotland.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership

Silverburn to help support some of the vital projects being delivered within Glasgow. Just a few thousand pounds can make a significant difference, even more so during this pandemic.”

Foundation Scotland has distributed more than

£ 950,000 in crisis funding across Glasgow in recent months, including support for Govan Housing Association.

The Association used the money to provide a hot food and food parcel delivery service to more than 200 people in need of a helping hand per day during lockdown.
