Worker at care home has virus

-

A STAFF member at a Maryhill care home has tested positive for Covid- 19.

Bosses at Wyndford Locks, on Currie Street, insist all necessary measures are being taken to minimise the risk of infection to residents.

They are working closely with health chiefs and have closed the care home to all non- essential visitors.

The individual, who has not been named, is said to be asymptomatic and doing well.

A spokeswoman for the home said: “Following one colleague testing positive, we are taking the necessary precautions to minimise the risk of transmission to other colleagues and residents.

“This includes closing the home to non- essential visitors and facilitating whole- home testing of all residents and colleagues with public health as a priority.

“The affected colleague began isolating immediately following the positive result, and we wish them a speedy recovery.

“We are working closely with our local health and care partners and are in regular contact with the next of kin of our residents at Wyndford Locks to keep them updated of the situation.”

The news comes on the day when Covid- 19 cases in Greater Glasgow rose by more than 100 and shortly after Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the citywide lockdown would remain in place.

Meanwhile, a primary school class will soon return after having to selfisolate due to a confirmed coronavirus case.

Pupils have taken the precaution at Garnetbank Primary following a positive test earlier this month.

Glasgow Council City has confirmed kids will return to the Garnethill education hub in the coming days.

It comes shortly after we told of NHS Test and Protect being rolled out at Williamwood High School, in Clarkston, following a link to Covid- 19.
