Jack to miss Euro clash and a doubt for derby

- MATTHEW LINDSAY

RYAN Jack has been ruled out of Rangers’ game against Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar today with a calf problem – and is in danger of missing the match against Celtic next month.

Ibrox medical staff are unsure how long the 28- year- old, who has featured for STeven Gerrard’s side in all seven of their Premiership matches so far, will be sidelined for.

However, the first Old Firm game of the season is scheduled to take place at Parkhead a month today and Jack faces a race to regain fitness in time.

“Jacko will be missing for a few weeks at least,” said Gerrard. “I think with him we have to take it day by day but we’ve had confirmation that he has a calf problem.

“So he’ll certainly be missing in the short term. It’s difficult to say whether it will be two, three or four weeks at the moment. But he’ll certainly miss a couple of weeks.

“Brandon Barker is similar in terms of his scan. It’s obviously a different muscle, in the hamstring. He’ll be missing in the short- term as well.”

Meanwhile, Gerrard confirmed that Alfredo Morelos, who was stretchered off in the 4- 0 triumph over Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday, is available for selection.

“We’ll make that decision when we need to,” he said. “But in terms of his fitness, he is available. He’s trained fully with the group having trained with the physio yesterday. I’ve just spoken with him and he’s fine and available.”

United midfielder Ryan Edwards, who escaped a booking for his challenge on Morelos, won’t face retrospective disciplinary action from the SFA.

‘ It’s not important to be honest,” said Gerrard. “I’ve moved on.”

Gerrard, meanwhile, refused to confirm interest in Daniel Johnson of Preston North End.

“I won’t mention any of the targets that we’re pursuing,” he said. “I don’t think that’s right or respectful. But, again, I’ll say that we are looking to add to the squad.”
