£ 220,000 refunded in school trip cash

- BY CATRIONA STEWART

GLASGOW parents are still waiting for school trip cash to be refunded six months on f rom excursions being cancelled. But Glasgow City Council said it has recovered £ 220,000 so far for parents using its insurance company to fight for refunds.

At some schools, though, parents said they are frustrated by a lack of communication and regular updates about the money.

The Glasgow Times has been inundated with calls from parents at both primary and secondary schools who are eager to have their cash returned.

At All Saints Secondary in Barmulloch, parents said they are still out of pocket by £ 600 per pupil after paying up in March for trips abroad.

Hundreds of families across the city are affected with excursions due to take place to overseas destinations such as America and Africa.

The city council said it is still waiting for travel companies to pay up before it can return cash to anxious parents and carers.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said: “We have recovered £ 222,000 at present, the majority of the £ 222,000 payments have been issued to the schools, we are awaiting funds for others to be transferred to Glasgow City Council and then to the school accounts.”

As well as foreign trips for secondary pupils, primary school trips closer to home are still to be refunded.

We told last month how Knightswood Primary families were waiting for cash back on a trip to Lochgoilhead.

Hillpark Secondary pupils should have been going skiing in Austria while youngsters from Lochend Community High School and Lourdes Secondary School were excited about a forthcoming journey to New York that they missed out on.

Parents had paid as much £ 1400 for these excursions. as
