- BY CONNOR GORDON

A MASKED gunman who fired a bullet through the window of a house in Baillieston claimed he did it to show off.

He said he was showing off to pals after being refused entry to a party in the house.

Hughes’s father and co- accused

Brian Hughes Sr, 56, was arrested earlier that day for possession of a stun gun and stun baton in his car.

The pair appeared at the High Court in Glasgow to plead guilty to separate charges.

Hughes Jr admitted culpable and reckless conduct by firing a handgun at a window causing damage to a window to the danger of the occupants.

Hughes Sr pleaded to the possession of a stun gun and stun baton without authority.

The court heard Mr Brittain, 30, held a party at Queensby Road which ended before midnight.

Mr Brittain spotted a man outside his living room window who gestured to him to come closer.

Ms Daziel said: “The accused who had his face and nose covered and was holding a shiny hand gun then appeared at the front of the house.

“Hughes pointed the gun at the window to the side of the one Mr Brittain was standing behind, and fired it once.”

The pair then got into coloured 4x4 and made off.

Ms Daziel stated that bullet penetrated one pane a dark

the of the double- glazed window. Officers later attended and viewed CCTV before tracking down Hughes Jnr and arresting him.

The hearing was told Hughes Sr was snared with the two weapons in his Vauxhall Insignia after a tip- off.

Police found the stun gun and the stun baton in a carrier bag in the boot.

Ms Daziel said: prohibited weapons.”

Hughes Sr was quizzed and accepted ownership of the vehicle, but denied knowledge of the items.

Tony Lenahan, defending Hughes Sr, said: “His two adult children were treating the stun guns as if they were toys.

“Mr Hughes was zapped on the body while asleep and took the items off them then put them in the bin shed and then in his car boot.

“There is no suggestion someone else put them in his boot.”

Euan Dow, defending Hughes Jr, said: “The accused and his friends were told they weren’t getting access to the property as the party was over.

“They took exception to this and the accused took the firearm.

“He pointed at the living room window and it wasn’t targeted.

“He was drinking alcohol and showing off to his friends – the firearm didn’t belong to him.”

Sentence was deferred for background reports until next month by Judge Lord Braid.
