ACHARITY has launched a n app e a l t o he l p homeless people across Glasgow and beyond this winter.

Homeless Project Scotland has asked kind Glaswegians to dig deep in order to assist with handing out warm clothes, hats, scarves, gloves, sleeping bags and toiletries to people sleeping on the streets.

The charity’s team are also looking for donations of any PPE such as masks and hand sanitiser in order to keep people safe throughout the ongoing pandemic.

As well as that, Homeless Project Scotland is looking for any financial donations people are able to give.

Co- founder and chairman of the charity Colin McInnes has urged people across Glasgow to give generously.

He said: “We drive 7000 miles a month. Money helps because it pays for fuel.”

The charity is also looking volunteers to donate their time.

This might involve helping to run regular soup kitchens or street outreach work.

Volunteers donating their time to the charity receive first- aid and naloxone training – a drug that counters the effects of heroin overdose.

Throughout the coronavirus crisis, Homeless Project Scotland has delivered 2500 meals a week to homeless people throughout Glasgow and beyond. for

It holds regular soup kitchens in Glasgow as well as handing out food and warm clothes to people sleeping rough.

The team have also been supporting people living in hotels temporarily as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

The charity believes there has been an increase in the number of people who are back on the streets.

Colin said: “People are struggling to cope in hostel accommodation and that’s why they are back on the streets. They may have addictions which cause manic behaviour.”

The charity is entirely volunteerled and does not receive funding from any statutory bodies such as Glasgow City Council.

This means it relies on grant funding and generosity from members of the public.

Colin said: “If the public don’t support us, we will cease to exist.”

Members of the public can make a financial donation at: localgiving. org/ appeal/ homelesswinter/.
