Grab a bite at these venues

- BY CATRIONA STEWART

WE’RE one week in to the 16- day enhanced lockdown measures for Glasgow – and the rammy over what constitutes a cafe seems to have died down.

But while the majority of restaurants were told they must close, there is a loophole that allows some to continue operating as before as long as they close by 6pm.

Glasgow City Council has allowed unlicensed restaurants to continue to serve sit down meals.

And, while some have closed entirely or are only serving takeaway, many have grabbed the opportunity to keep feeding their loyal customers.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “Our environmental health team has been advising and visiting establishments across the city in line with the updated Scottish Government restrictions for the city.

“In basic terms it means that if they are licensed to sell alcohol, they should be closed unless they are a café.

“And if establishments are not licensed, they are allowed to trade.”

We’ve drawn up a list of some on the establishment around the city where you can have the full restaurant experience if cafe culture isn’t quite cutting it.

The Steak Inn on Victoria Road, Strathbungo, is operating from 1pm til 5pm for sit down food.

Nearby Anarkali, also on Victoria Road -– but the Govanhill side – is doing sit in meals

Kebabish, on Victoria Road, is a South Side favourite curry spot – and was reopened by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, right, last year following a devastating fire.

It is open from noon until 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 1pm til 6pm on Sunday with takeaway available from 4pm til 10.45pm.

Ranjit’s Kitchen, Pollokshaws Road, in Strathbungo, is open everyday except Monday from noon until 8.30pm but from 6pm it’s takeaway and collection only.

The Steak Lounge and Grill, Clarkston Road, Cathcart, is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 6pm.

The Village Curry House, West Street, Tradeston, is also open from noon until 6pm.

Damasqino, on the Saltmarket, is open from noon until 6pm for dine in meals.

It is also open from 6pm 10pm for takeaway. until
