Izaguirre has his say on who to play at left- back

- MARK HENDRY

EMILIO Izaguirre had his fair share of ding- dongs with Rangers during his time as a Celtic player.

The Honduran recalls the physical side to the Old Firm clashes and will always sport bumps and bruises from the battles he fought at Parkhead and Ibrox on derby day.

On the left- hand side, where Izaguirre played with distinction for the Parkhead club, of what is likely to be a 3- 5- 2 formation tomorrow, Neil Lennon has the task of choosing between Greg Taylor and new signing from AC Milan Diego Laxalt: two players who offer different attributes for their manager.

But while both are viable options for Lennon, former left- back Izaguirre believes Laxalt is the better choice to make his debut because he offers a physical side that Taylor may lack. The loanee also boasts an impressive CV in big games including the Milan derby.

“I played against Greg Taylor when he was at Kilmarnock and he’s a good player,” Izaguirre said. “Technically he’s good one- on- one. The game against Rangers is very physical and he’s maybe not the strongest player – and they have signed a good player in Diego.

“He played for Milan and Uruguay, he’s a team player with a different style. In South America, Uruguay play a bit like teams in Scotland: they like strong players.

“Greg Taylor has already come up against players like Kent but I think Diego might play because it’s a big game and he’s used to them. He has played in World Cups, big games.”
