Peter is Loven another Old Firm victory at Parkhead

- CHRIS JACK

PETER LOVENKRANDS reckons Rangers have landed a significant psychological blow by beating Celtic as comfortably as they did in the first Old Firm clash of the campaign.

Steven Gerrard’s side moved four points clear at the top of the Premiership thanks to a brace from Connor Goldson.

It is the second successive derby that Rangers have won at Parkhead and former Ibrox hero Lovenkrands believes it could have a significant impact on the title race.

“Rangers have gone to Parkhead now and won back to back,” he said. “Mentally for Celtic, it’ll be a difficult one to get over. Celtic have now got a big game with Aberdeen coming up that will show things.

“How is their mindset going to be for the rest of the season? If Rangers can build from this it could change the league.

“Rangers have made fantastic strides under Steven Gerrard. He and his staff have done a brilliant job and they’ve closed the gap completely.”

It was a day of huge positives for Gerrard as his side dominated the Old Firm derby. But Lovenkrands has concerns over Alfredo Morelos after he slapped Scott Brown’s head.

“Morelos has shown that he gets involved in these silly things,” Lovenkrands said.

“Scott Brown knows he can wind him up and I saw it early doors in the game. He was always nipping in his ear.

“Yeah Morelos hit him on the ear and these are things he needs to get out of his game.

“For Steven Gerrard to have to worry about something like that isn’t good either. You saw as soon as Morelos got his yellow Steven Gerrard took him off the pitch because he couldn’t risk him getting another yellow.”
