Staff voice concerns amid Covid cases at cinema

- BY EMA SABLJAK

EMPLOYEES at a Glasgow cinema have been left feeling anxious due to

“poor communication” about coronavirus cases.

Two workers at the ODEON Luxe Glasgow Quay on Paisley Road tested positive for the virus, we reported last week.

But the Odeon Workers Union claims that number has now risen to four.

And an employee, who wished to stay anonymous, has revealed “staff feel very worried and anxious working there”.

“The communication and transparency of our management team have been very poor, we received a scripted copy and paste email when each positive case has been found within the cinema,” they added.

“No other staff who have come into contact with, or worked alongside, individuals with the virus have been tested. There are a number of staff in this situation and now have been four confirmed positive cases within the Glasgow Quay.

“Staff at Odeon Glasgow Quay feel very worried and anxious working there.”

An ODEON spokesman claimed the Glasgow cinema “operates to the highest standards of health and safety”.

He added: “As part of our safeguarding pledge, we undertake thorough deep cleans of the cinema, on top of the extensive and regular cleans, with all protocols clearly communicated to our colleagues.

“We have confidence in the health and safety measures we have in place.”

But the employee has urged for management to provide further details of the cleaning process to workers.

They added: “We have not received details on what the deep cleaning entails and some are sceptical that it could have been performed to a high enough standard simply in the morning before the venue opens.”
