Plea made as vandals torch donation bags
ACHARIT Y s hop i n Drumchapel will be faced with an £ 800 repair bill after mindless vandals set fire to donation bags outside its premises at the weekend.
Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Drumchapel hub has been forced to close for the rest of the week due to the fire damage – and they are expecting to lose a further £ 1400 in earnings due to the temporary closure.
The shop’s team have described the callous act as a “devastating blow”, after finding the premises trashed on Sunday morning.
The charity is now appealing to the local community to rally round and do what they can to support the store.
Throughout lockdown, 45 Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland stores were closed with all fundraising events postponed, resulting in the charity losing £ 500,000 per month in income.
Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland is asking for people to donate bags of stock including clothes, accessories and bric- a- brac, or to volunteer their time to help with the day- today running of the store.
Linda Hull, shop manager at Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Drumchapel hub, said: “We were deeply saddened to discover the damage that had happened to our shop over the weekend.
“Our shops are vital in raising funds to help people in our communities who are living with chest,
heart and stroke conditions to live their lives to the full.
“A heartless act like this takes money away from helping the people who desperately need our support.
“We are calling for the local community to rally round, as they always do, and show their support to our store. If people have been having a clear- out, we would love if they could drop their pre- loved items off at the store to help us replenish our shelves.
“We are also desperately in need of new volunteers to help run the store. Anything they can do to support would be really appreciated at this time.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers are carrying out enquiries after a fire at Dunkenny Square on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
“Anyone who knows who is responsible should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting 3544 of October 24.”
