St Mirren in the dock as SPFL launch disciplinary action
ST MIRREN face having two 3- 0 defeats awarded against them in the Premiership if the y a r e found t o have breached strict Covid- 19 safety protocols before the postponement of their matches against Motherwell and Hamilton.
The SPFL yesterday announced that disciplinary proceedings had been launched against St Mirren as a result of their home league games having to be called off.
The Buddies saw two players test positive and a third told to self- isolate at the start of the week leading up to the scheduled visit of Motherwell on October 17.
A further positive test prompted the game to be postponed inside three hours of kick- off after St Mirren told the SPFL they only had eight outfield players and four goalkeepers.
After further positive tests the following week, St Mirren only had 11 players available and the visit of Hamilton was called off on the Friday evening.
The Paisley club are currently level on points with Hamilton, who have played a game less than them, at the bottom of the Premiership table.
A St Mirren statement read: “Following the SPFL decision to proceed with disciplinary proceedings against St Mirren, St Mirren can confirm they will defend this robustly.”
The St Mirren hearing will be held before a sub- committee of the SPFL board and will be chaired by an independent legallyqualified chair on Tuesday, November 10. It is expected it could run in to Wednesday, November 11.
The SPFL instigated disciplinary proceedings against Kilmarnock following the cancellation of their Rugby Park match against Motherwell on October 2.
Their hearing will be held on Tuesday, November 10, and now may also extend into Wednesday, November 11.
