Hotel reveals strangest requests by customers

- BY LAUREN BROWNLIE

ACOMPANY with hotels in Glasgow has revealed the strangest things its employees have been asked.

Travelodge UK revealed that a customer staying with someone at the Glasgow Queen Street hotel wondered if a member of staff could “sing and record Happy Birthday into her phone so that she could play the recording every time she washed her hands”.

Another employee at the same hotel was asked: “Will I have Scottish dreams whilst staying in Scotland?”

With the hotel chain welcoming millions of business and leisure customers annually, the range of requests varies across the regions and seasonally.

Other requests from hotels across the country included “Can you fill my room with artificial snow and hide an engagement ring?” and “Can you serenade my wife with bagpipes when we arrive at the hotel to make her feel special as it is her first time in Scotland?”

With social distancing dominating our lives in 2020, Travelodge hotel teams have also experienced a range of customer queries around this.

One customer ringing the team at Edinburgh Central Princess Street ahead of his booking wondered if the receptionist could book him two rooms, and wanted her to say at check-in that due to social distancing rules, the couple would have to sleep in separate rooms – as his wife snores and he was desperate for a good night’s sleep.

One business customer staying at Edinburgh Park Travelodge Plus was so taken by the hotel’s 5ft

TravelodgeProtect+ Covid-19 safety programme stand that he asked if he could use it as a back drop for all of his business zoom calls throughout his stay.

Meanwhile, an entrepreneur asked the hotel team if they could get a local printer to print his company logo on to 1000 face masks.

Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed said: “Throughout the year, our hotel teams receive thousands of interesting requests from business and leisure guests.

“Where possible, our hotel teams will go above and beyond to help customers as they relish a good challenge.

“However, there are some requests beyond their control such as: stopping the seagulls from squealing, identifying UFO hotspots and arranging a visit with Arthur at Arthur’s Seat.”
