Relief over return of bulk uplift service in Glasgow

-

IAM very relieved to hear that bulk uplift has been reinstated but I am shocked that it has taken so long to get to this point. Our streets have been littered with furniture and rubbish since March and I have never seen it get this bad.

I understand that coronavirus halted these services but it has taken so long for them to start back up again that the entire city has turned into a dumping ground. I hope that we can get back to clean streets again soon.

REGARDING your correspondent Alex Orr’s comments on living in a democracy.

Scotland made a democratic decision in 2014 to remain part of the UK.

I take it Mr Orr’s idea of democracy is the same as the SNP – it is only democratic if we win.

The referendum was once in a generation, not keep voting till we win.

I WAS very interested to read the story about the fashion design work at Dumfries House (Thursday).

In my day a girl from Old Drumchapel would never have the chance to hob nob with a prince and make £1000 garments to appear in the pages of Vogue.

But more impressive was the drive from the two young women to set up their own businesses.

Never mind royalty – I take my hat off to that. Hard work and ambition. Very well done.

I READ the article about students being allowed to go home at Christmas and was very surprised this is being allowed to happen.

Like many families across Glasgow I am very worried that we will not be able to have a big Christmas celebration like we usually do every year.

Why do students have clearer guidelines on who they are allowed to spend Christmas with than the rest of us? After all the doom and gloom of this year, surely it’s Nicola Sturgeon’s duty to ensure we are able to have festivities with our families. I’m sure we could all be doing with some Christmas cheer this year.

I WAS pleasantly surprised to read about the young boy band who will be coming to Glasgow.

It’s always nice to read that people from outside the city love it as much as we do.

I must admit I hadn’t heard of the Vamps (above-right), but hope their concert will go ahead as planned in May. We all need a little hope in our life right now. Martin Knox

IT was great to read about Castleton Primary’s awardwinning film It’s Just Not Fair! in the Glasgow Times on Thursday.

As a Castlemilk resident myself, I think it’s a disgrace families in our community don’t have access to a big supermarket.

These children have said aloud what many of us have been thinking for long and weary – why is our neighbourhood ignored? My neighbour is a single mum
