‘ Weekly’ isolation letters from school

THE mother of a pupil attending a coronavirus- hit South Side school has said parents are receiving isolation letters “almost weekly”.

Test and Protect teams are currently working to identify close contacts of those to have tested positive for the virus at Castlemilk High School.

One concerned parent said: “So the letter we got from Castlemilk High about Test and Protect being in the school this week is nonsense? Getting these letters almost weekly at this point.”

Another said: “Castlemilk high school had a lot of pupils and staff self- isolating since the schools went back.”

Glasgow City Council has since said it has a “robust process” in place in responding to coronavirus outbreaks at Glasgow schools.

Schools are also “routinely” updating risk assessments in accordance with the Scottish Government health advice.

Meanwhile, contact tracing has now been rolled out at St Monica’s Primary School and Milton Community Nursery to identify close contacts to those to have tested positive for the virus.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said: “When our schools and nurseries are linked to a positive coronavirus case we have a robust process in place to liaise with our public health experts, communicate directly with parents and carers to give advice and support and arrange learning from home for pupils who need to self- isolate as a precaution.

“Schools are routinely updating their health and safety risk assessments in order to help suppress and reduce the spread of the virus.

“Everyone has a role to play by following the current advice and guidance and the rules about face coverings, hand washing and physical distancing to help keep us safe.”
