‘ I know the best This will be tribute to him’

Brother’s charity bid after death of ‘ best friend’

- BY JACK HAUGH

FOR the brother of a teenager killed in the East End, the last year has been spent trying to adjust to life without his “best friend”. Now, Marc Hendry is determined to honour “much missed” Liam’s memory by coining in cash for a charity close to his heart.

The Knightswood man is taking part in Movember in his bid to pay tribute to the 18- year- old, who died in September 2019 after being struck by a van on Barrowfield Street.

“I just know this will be the best tribute to him,” Marc said.

“It would mean the world to me to do this for Liam. He was one of the best people I ever knew. He was my best friend. We never fought or had any arguments. In a way, this is his sort of thing. He was always doing stuff like this and led the Anne Frank memorial at school. He was always a loving person.

“In a big way, it is him helping people as I am doing this for him. Even when I feel a bit worried or anxious, it feels like he can help me with my anxiety.”

Marc is determined to raise £ 1888 – a nod to the family’s love of Celtic FC – by the end of the month and hopes the money will support others who’ve gone through what he has in the last year.

“I just feel now is the best time to help others and those who have gone through it in their lives,” Marc, 33, said.

“I was maybe in my 20s when I started to suffer from my own mental health issues but have been able to get myself into a better place.

“I did feel like I had gone back to square one when Liam passed away.

“The idea for doing Movember just came to me and supporting people is something close to my heart.

“I’ve never done it and it’s funny cause my mates have been teasing me about it and joking that I won’t even be able to grow one.

“My brothers and I used to go to the games together and my dad would come as well from time- totime, so it was always a family thing for us.”

For Marc, he says he has his own family to thank for their support during the last “difficult year”, as he paid tribute to partner Chantelle Mallon and daughter Sarah.

“My partner and my daughter have been such a rock for me in my life and have helped me to get to where I am today,” he said.

Two men are due to appear in court next year in connection with the death.
