Pervert who pounced on lonely woman avoids jail

- BY CONNOR GORDON

A PERVERT who followed a lonely woman in the early hours of the morning before groping her has avoided jail.

Alexandre Cubilier, 36, pounced on the 20- year- old in Kelvinbridge on December 13, 2019.

Cubilier kept tabs on her from Great Western Road to nearby Napierhall Street before pulling the victim into him. The beast then attacked the brave woman who was able to overpower him and fled the scene.

Cubilier, a married first offender from Airdrie, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to sexual assault.

The court heard the woman had left friends and was walking alone at 00: 45.

She became aware that

Cubilier was walking closely behind her. The woman felt uncomfortable, quickened her pace and changed direction to make sure she was being tracked.

Prosecutor Derek Buchanan said: “Cubilier then put his arms round the back of her and pulled her into him. He brought his face against her and tried to kiss her twice.”

Cubilier went on to grope the woman’s breasts before she pushed him away and ran off.

Mr Buchanan said: “The victim described her attacker as having very dark hair, a black beard and something like a German accent.”

Police later traced Cubilier due to information from an appeal to members of the public as well as CCTV.

Gerry Devanney, defending, told the court Cubilier continues to have the support of his wife and family.

The lawyer added: “This has been a significant lesson for him and that’s not been lost on him and his family.”

Sheriff Gerard Bonnar ordered Cubilier to do 225 hours and put him under supervision as well as on the sex offenders’ register for three years.
