New boss unveiled for Tokyo 2020

-

Scott Pollock has been named British cycling’s new lead men’s sprint coach following changes in the final months before the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics.

Pollock replaces Kevin Stewart who was dismissed in November due to “inappropriate relationships with riders”, and will be charged with attempting to deliver another strong medal haul with a squad headlined by Jason Kenny.

The appointment is effectively an in- house one as Pollock had already been working full- time with British Cycling as senior strength and conditioning coach for the English Institute of Sport.

CRICKET

Zak Crawley has no intention of becoming a “one- hit wonder” in Test cricket and is already plotting a fitting Sri Lankan follow- up to last summer’s career- altering double century.

The Kent batsman, 22, hit a magnificent 267 against Pakistan on his previous England appearance in August .

He said: “It is very early days but I don’t want to be a one- hit wonder, get a big score and then fade away. Hopefully I can secure my place and I’m not going to be living off that innings for too long.”

ICE HOCKEY

Gareth Murray has signalled that his days as a Glasgow Rocks super- sub are probably over to help the Scots dig out of the BBL’s basement, writes Mark Woods.

The Great Britain star, 36, has played sparingly so far this season as he adjusts to his new double duty as player and coach. But Murray is prepared to throw himself into the fray to ensure Glasgow don’t fluff their lines tomorrow against Worcester Wolves

He said: “I don’t want to play 40 minutes. But I might have to start if people can’t make shots.

“Making substitutions, changing rotations and coaching the guys during the game is difficult.”
