Thug jailed after brutal attack left pair injured

ATHUG who left a man and a woman badly hurt after brutal lockdown attacks has been jailed for more than five years. Michael Jones, 46, had recently been freed early from prison when he turned on James McCulloch last April 1.

The 53- year- old suffered a brain injury after he was repeatedly struck with a table leg at a flat in

Drumchapel. He had tried to stop Jones from attacking his 36- yearold friend Nicola Black, who ended up with a fractured nose.

Jones was yesterday sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.

He earlier admitted assaulting both victims to their severe injury and permanent disfigurem­ent as well as to the danger of Mr McCulloch’s life.

Jones was sentenced to four and a half years – but must first serve 320 days from a previous jail- term.

Lord Armstrong told him: “You were on licence having been released from prison just over two months earlier.

“Your criminal record runs from 1991 to 2019. I count some 59 previous conviction­s.

“You have been sentenced 28 times to periods of detention or imprisonme­nt including twice at the high court.”

A previous hearing was told how Jones had pinned Ms Black to the ground and punched her.

Mr McCulloch pulled Jones away before he was also attacked.

Police later found Mr McCulloch in the blood- splattered flat.

The court heard he had bruising on the brain, three fractured ribs, a collapsed lung as well as a head wound.

Ms Black had a and a cut cheek.

Jones was traced and claimed to have woken up with blood on his hands, but could not recall how it happened. fractured nose
