... with Roofe also injured as Rangers head to Aberdeen

SCOTT ARFIELD, the Rangers midfielder who has been in inspired form for the Ibrox club this season, is set to be sidelined for at least another fortnight with an ankle ligament injury, his manager Steven Gerrard revealed yesterday.

And Kemar Roofe, the striker who has scored 12 goals in all competitions since moving to Glasgow in a £ 4.5m transfer in August, is also poised to miss the Premiership matches against Aberdeen at Pittodrie tomorrow and Motherwell at Fir Park next week.

Roofe suffered a quad strain in the first- half of the 1- 0 win over Celtic in Govan last Saturday that sent Gerrard’s side 19 points clear of their city rivals at the top of the league table.

“Scott is about to come out of a boot that he’s been in since the injury,” said Gerrard. “He’s got an ankle ligament injury, which is quite a significant injury. He’s progressing well, but it’s about moving the rehab forward now. But in the short- term Scott will be missing.

“It is difficult to put a date on Scott. What I would say is that knowing Scott, and if he keeps progressing as he has, you are looking at probably the end of the month all being well.

“It’s an injury that you can’t really rush and push, as much as you want to. So we are probably looking at four to five weeks for this type of injury. “Kemar won’t be with us at the weekend. He picked up an injury in the Old Firm. It’s difficult to put a date on that one just yet but I predict he could miss a couple of games.” However, Ryan Jack, who hasn’t played for Rangers since injuring his knee in the 4- 0 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox back on November 22, could return to training next week. Gerrard continued: “There’s better news on Ryan, who has been outside and had two or three sessions and is progressing extremely well. If that keeps moving in that direction he should be back with the team some time next week. “Jordan Jones is pretty similar to Ryan in terms of a return.”
